Why does some rock have layers?

These rocks are called sedimentary rocks. They form over a long time when tiny pieces of sand, mud, and other materials settle in layers and get squished together.

⭐ Bonus fact: You can sometimes see fossils, which are ancient plant or animal remains, trapped within these rock layers!
