Why does rain smell fresh after a dry spell?
When rain hits dry ground, tiny bits of dust and oils from plants are released into the air. These tiny bits mix with gasses from the soil to create a unique, fresh smell. We often call this smell 'petrichor.'
⭐ Bonus fact: Some scientists think humans like the smell of rain because our ancestors relied on it for survival.
