Why does our fingernail and toenails grow?

Fingernails and toenails are made of a tough protein called keratin. They grow from a special area under your skin called the nail matrix, which constantly makes new cells that push older cells forward.

⭐ Bonus fact: Nails grow about 3 millimeters (a little over an eighth of an inch) each month!
